High School Track and Field: Iola Mustangs and Fillies
A stiff wind was not enough to keep the Fillies away from success at the Anderson County Invitational track meet on Thursday.
The Iola girls finished in second place overall in a meet that included all of the teams that will be included in Iolas regional meet and half of the Pioneer League. The Iola boys finished seventh.
Its hard to talk about the Fillies strong performance and not start with sophomore Elysia Kunkler who for the second time in her high school career, had a clean sweep of all four of her events.
Kunkler finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.46) and the 100-meter hurdles (17.03) and finished first while setting personal records in both the 300-meter hurdles (49.79) and the long jump (17 feet).
The 300-meter record was even more impressive considering the hurdlers were running into a 20-mph wind.
Junior Ellie Carson also finished well in the 300-meter hurdles, with a season-best time of 52.80 and a fourth-place finish. She also came in second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.75).

Senior Nora Gostner finished third in the discus with a throw of 9703 which was a personal best and fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.29.
Junior Kassy Shelby finished fourth in the 200-meters with a time of 29.81 and senior Madi Carlin finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 406.
