MORAN — A house occupied by two brothers burned early Sunday morning.
The home of Ethan and Landon Hammond at 428 S. Cedar St., was destroyed by the fire that was reported in the pre-dawn hours.
Ethan Hammond was at home at the time the fire started and escaped uninjured, a friend told the Register.
The fire apparently started in a bedroom, Moran Fire Chief Phillip Merkel said. The house was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived at about 4 a.m.
Firefighters were at the scene for about five hours. Merkel said the cause has not been determined.
The brothers were preparing to begin classes at Allen County Community College later this month.
Several former classmates have begun collecting cash and household items for the Hammonds, who are staying with a third brother for the time being.
The rental house was owned by Barry Maley
of Moran.
