Rob Francis filed for re-election to position No. 2 on the Allen County Commission minutes before Tuesday morning’s commission meeting began. Francis, a Republican, is completing his first four-year term.
The deadline to file is noon June 1.
No one else has filed for Francis’ seat or for position No. 3, held by Gary McIntosh. McIntosh, also in his first term, announced earlier he would not be a candidate for re-election.
Francis, former minister of Iola’s Grace Baptist Church, said he enjoyed his work on the commission and was eager to continue to be involved in
ongoing projects, including construction of a new Allen County Hospital on North Kentucky Street.
“I enjoy the work and being able to serve all the people of Allen County,” Francis said.
Francis said he intended to file earlier, but put it off when some health concerns arose.
“Now, I have clean bill of health” from his doctors, he said.
COUNTY commissioners are paid annual salaries of $17,784 and are entitled to enroll in the county’s health insurance plan. They also draw compensation for mileage when using their vehicles for county business.
Francis’ district is made up of Ward 3 in Iola and North Iola, Geneva, Carlyle, Deer Creek, Osage and Elm townships. McIntosh’s district is composed of wards 1, 2 and 4 in Iola and South Iola Township. Francis and McIntosh both live in Iola.
The remainder of the county, including Humboldt, Moran, Elsmore and Savonburg, is in position No. 1, held by Dick Works, Humboldt, who was re-elected in 2010.
