A suspect who eluded local law enforcement officers for two days is now in custody.
Sheriff Bryan Murphy said the suspect, who declined to release his name, was arrested Friday evening.
A resident in the 10 block of Canary Lane spotted the man lying in the back of a pickup truck. The suspect, who was naked, was arrested without incident.
The suspect was spotted racing southbound on U.S. 169 at speeds of over 100 mph Wednesday evening, shortly after the car was reported stolen from the Kansas City area.
An Allen County sheriff’s deputy, assisted by Iola police officers, pursued the vehicle. Spike strips successfully deflated the stolen car’s tires, forcing the man to abandon the vehicle, while it was still rolling slowly on U.S. 169.
He fled on foot into a nearby pasture and eluded capture all night. He was spotted attempting to break into a house along North Dakota Road Thursday morning, before fleeing the property, prompting another fruitless search.
That led to Friday night’s arrest.
As of Saturday afternoon, the suspect was refusing to give his name.
“He gave us a bogus name, and said he wasn’t going to talk anymore,” sad Sheriff Bryan Murphy.
Deputies were entering his description and fingerprint information into a national database in the hopes of determining his identity.

IN AN UNRELATED matter, two juveniles reported missing in recent days from Humboldt have been found.
Both of the 14-year-olds were found over the weekend at separate locations.
Aaliyah Blazek and Teryn Scott both had been living in foster homes when they left, apparently on their own accord, and cut off contact with their foster families.
