Scores of applicants flocked to the Thrive Allen County office Tuesday seeking positions at the new G&W Foods grocery store, which is slated to open first of the year.
“It was a very strong turnout,” noted Tom True, a district supervisor with G&W. “We’re looking forward to the next session.”
Grocery store representatives will be back at Thrive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 to interview more applicants.
Applications are available at the Thrive office, 9 S. Jefferson Ave., and should be filled out prior to Dec. 2, said Bill Maness, economic development director at Thrive.
At least 40 positions — “Probably closer to 50,” True said — must be filled, both full- and part-time.
The store is slated to open sometime around Jan. 1.
“We had some equipment come in damaged, and that pushed everything back,” True said.
Store officials had been eyeing a mid-December opening at the old Allen County Hospital site.
