Area residents hoping to get  a clearer picture on their health can do so at the annual Allen County Health Fair Saturday morning.
The health fair coincides with the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO and runs from 8 to 11 in the Little Theater of the Recreation Community Building.
The event will offer a wide variety of health screenings for individuals, including those for complete blood chemistry profile, complete blood count, cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, blood chemistry panel including glucose and basic metabolic panel; as well as a prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening. The blood tests will cost $43; the PSA $27.
In addition, take-home colorectal kits will be sold for $5 apiece while supplies last, said Barbara Smith, executive secretary at Allen County Hospital, which sponsors the health fair.
Vouchers will be made available for those hoping to undergo a bone density scan or mammogram later at the hospital.
In addition, body fat, height/weight and blood pressure will be tested for free.
The health fair became a part of the Chamber EXPO for the first time last year. An untimely winter storm the night before the event put a damper on attendance.
“We’re hoping for a bigger turnout this year,” Smith said.
The event is made possible through volunteered hours provided by the ACH staff, as well as the Allen County Hospital Auxiliary.
Smith said those planning for PSAs and blood tests should fast for 12 to 14 hours before arriving at the health fair.
“You can still drink water, and of course take medication if that is prescribed,” she said.
