Richard Spencer has ones some ready-made for two couples, relationships that will last most evenings through the first weekend of March.
There’s a catch. The two couples have to learn some catchy tunes and enough dialogue to propel “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” through two weekends of shows at ICT’s Warehouse Theatre, 203 S. Jefferson Ave.
Last week’s tryouts drew just two people. One of those, Jana Taylor, came to make herself available to work behind the scenes and read lines to help out with Andrew Oatman’s audition, Spencer said.
“Andrew was good,” he added, and would be a fresh face to the ICT stage.
Since the tryouts on Jan. 3, Spencer has knocked on doors and made telephone calls, but came away empty handed.
“This has never happened to us before,” the veteran ICT director said. “Always before when tryouts came up short, there were some people we could contact. This time I haven’t been able to find anyone.”
Aspiring actors and actresses — two of each are needed — are encouraged to call Sophisticated Rose in downtown Iola, 365-6278, to set up time to visit with Spencer.
“It’s a hilarious comedy and one that will be a lot of fun to put together and stage,” on Feb. 24, 25 and 26 and March 2, 3 and 4, Spencer said.
The play has had many long runs since it debuted in 1996 and today it is the second most presented play by community theater groups.
Audiences also await.
Dee Sell, an ICT board member, said ticket sales for all six nights had been robust.
THE PLAY is a series of vignettes that starts with first dates, progresses through scenes dealing with marriage and child rearing, and finally older age.
