A “senior prank” could lead to some trouble at Iola High School.
Iola police said somebody broke into the school overnight Monday, spreading birdseed throughout the building, stacking tables and taking a Chanute sign from the school gymnasium.
Entering the school is prompting police to investigate the incident as a burglary, a felony, Bob Droessler of the police department said.
“We’re taking it very seriously,” Droessler said.
Charges of misdemeanor theft — for the missing sign — also are being investigated.
Droessler declined to name the six suspects because they had not been formally charged. He said other elements of the report had yet to be filed. All apparently were members of the recently graduated senior class, Principal David Grover said. Grover also declined to name the suspects.
The report will be forwarded to Allen County Attorney Wade Bowie to determine what charges will be filed.
