Community Thanksgiving services, sponsored by the Iola Area Ministerial Association, will be Sunday evening starting at 6 o’clock at First Church of the Nazarene, 1235 N. Walnut St.
Pastor Paul Miller of Iola’s First Assembly of God Church will deliver the sermon. An offering will be taken, with money collected going to help the needy through the Church Utility Relief Board. CURB helps with utility payments throughout the winter.
Pastor Daren Baldwin of the Nazarene church will host the event.
“This will be a time of unity and thanksgiving for all the ways in which God has blessed our community,” Baldwin said.
The two pastors said they were excited for the partnering of their churches, that “together we can do great things.” They also lauded the ministerial association for providing a forum for pastors to work with each other.
“It’s all about building a bigger kingdom of God,” Baldwin said.
The community service is one of several things the IAMA does each year in cooperative efforts among Iola churches.
In January the association has a role in Dr. Martin â¨Luther King recognition at the Ward Chapel AME Church, Lincoln and Buckeye streets.
It also arranges the series of Lenten breakfasts prior to Easter and for years has sponsored the Community Pantry. The pantry is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings to help the needy from its headquarters at 16 W. Broadway St.
