Allen County commissioners appointed Mona Hull, Humboldt, to a four-year trustee position at Allen County Regional Hospital.
Two positions on the board become open when the terms of Patti Boyd, Moran, and Sean McReynolds, Humboldt, expire Dec. 21.
Wed like to find someone in the Moran-Elsmore area, said Chairman Jerry Daniels, for the second position.
A graduate of Humboldt High, Allen Community College and Emporia State University, Hull works from her home as a health insurance analyst, most recently with United Health.
Hull said her supervisor thought serving as a trustee was a great idea.
I want to see Allen County thrive, Hull said, adding a comprehensive and profitable hospital is important to the county moving forward. I want to do what I can to help out my home county.
Hull will assume the position on Jan. 1, her 47th birthday.
COMMISSIONERS ALSO:
Accepted a bid from Welborn Sales, Salina, for 100 pieces of pipe, all 40 feet long and ranging in diameter from 10.75 to 24 inches. The pipe, costing $118,850, will be used during replacement or construction of new culverts.
Deferred a decision on whether to replace an awning over the front door of the former ambulance station behind the 911 emergency services building on North State Street. The building is used occasionally as lodging for visiting paramedics.
Put off discussion and a decision on whether to permit sheriffs officers to switch retirement from KPERS to a more lucrative Kansas Police and Fire plan. If that were to occur, the county would buy back what officers have invested in KPERS, about $342,000, and also would be obligated to pay (currently) 21.15 percent of salary into the retirement plan; KPERS is 9.37 percent. A hiccup for commissioners is what they could do to make other employees compensation packages compatible, which might entail funding individual retirement funds. With a Dec. 1 deadline, commissioners indicated they would wait until 2019 to consider a change. In the area, Chanute emergency responders are invested in the different plan.
Heard a proposal from Larry Walden for the county to place model wind turbines, perhaps 20 feet tall, at highways 54 and 169 entrances to the county, as well as the courthouse lawn, to draw attention to the forward thinking of Allen Countys economic development.
