In the retail world, goods are old hat at the height of their season.
That’s why this weekend’s Sidewalk Sale will be a bonanza of bargains especially on summer merchandise.
Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday four participating merchants will open their doors to 50-75 percent off of marked goods.
“Everything is half off or below,” said Jerry Whitworth of his McGinty-Whitworth retail store at 101 E. Madison.
Flip-flops, “tons of them” will be going for $10 apiece, Whitworth said.
Racks and racks of high-end to fanciful clothing for juniors and women will all be marked 50 percent off.
McGinty’s lines of Kansas State and University of Kansas merchandise, housewares, lawn ornaments and a multitude of possible gifts have all been slashed for the shopping frenzy.
At Town & Country Western and Casual Wear, 17 E. Madison Ave., men can find fantastic bargains on boots.
Owner Glen Coffield has taken 50 percent off Red Wing, Rocky, Wolverine, Justin and Sketchers boots.
Men’s shirts — T-shirts, polo and button-down — can be had for a song, Coffield said.
Some clothing lines are reduced by as much as 75 percent.
Men’s and boy’s jeans and shorts are all on sale including the popular Levi, Wrangler and Wolverine lines.
For the women, tops, shorts, capris and jeans are all on sale.
Sophisticated Rose, 19 S. Jefferson, will have 50 percent off its crystal, pottery and Fenton glassware, said owner Jan Knewtson.
All of its queen-size quilts are 50 percent off as well as pictures and decor.
Flip-flops and the popular slide style of shoe are half off.
On the west side of the square, goods at Annie’s Attic consignment store, 102 S. Washington, have never been cheaper, said owner Brenda Miller.
“We do this only once a year,” she said of the advantageous markdowns.
Even the 50 cent racks are reduced to 25 cents.
Men’s, women’s and children’s clothing are all on sale, including items ideal for the upcoming fall weather — if you can imagine.
To help beat the heat and make the shopping experience more enjoyable, Miller’s daughter, Tristan, and her friend Tara Catron, will set up a lemonade stand for the event.
