HUMBOLDT — Seventh- and eighth-grade students can hit the mats next year after the USD 258 Board of Education approved a wrestling program for Humboldt Middle School.

The goal is to introduce wrestling at a younger age to build fundamentals and encourage more participation at the high school wrestling program, Superintendent Kay Lewis told board members at their meeting Monday night.

Lewis said costs for the program would include salaries for coaches and uniforms; she said costs should be minimal but didn’t provide specific figures. The board could discuss coach salaries next month.
