HUMBOLDT ? Parental pride was overflowing Saturday evening when 42 seniors received diplomas sending them into the next journeys of their lives.

Mortar boards sailed through the air of the Humboldt Fieldhouse when Principal John Johnson declared proceedings at an end.

Ashlynn Booth and Dagen Goodner were selected by classmates to speak on their behalf.

?Over the past couple of weeks, I?ve been thinking about all the ?lasts? of my high school career,? Booth said. ?The last time I would hear Zoey (Rinehart) doing the announcements, the last time I?m going to ride on a school bus (thankfully!), the last time Bo (Bigelow) freaks out because the girls took his pencils, and the last time I?m going to walk through the halls as a Humboldt High School student.

?Regardless of how much I will miss these lasts, I am excited for all of my upcoming ?firsts:? The first day on a college campus, my first college final and my first career. I am also excited for the futures for each and every one of my classmates??

Goodner said, ?Now is our time to take on the world, and to find and pursue our passions, no matter what they may be.?

Goodner followed the ongoing tradition by recognizing Kyler Allen, who will report to Marine Corps basic training in June. He called Allen?s decision a ?courageous act of bravery and patriotism.?

?And always remember,? Goodner concluded: ?What happened yesterday is a history. What happens tomorrow is a mystery. What we do today makes a difference.?

SEVERAL presentations preceded the awarding of diplomas.

Cole Herder, Humboldt administrator, noted rural-type mailboxes, with the first names of each grad, were meant as encouragement for them to consider returning to their hometown.

Bo Bigelow was recognized as the top scoring in academics among boys by Humboldt Lions; Ashlynn Booth likewise was honored by the G.A.L.S.-F.C.E.
