On April 9, Iola High School forensics members Maggie Terhune and Autumn Snesrud brought home first place wins in serious solo acting and oral interpretation of prose, respectively, from the Arma-Northeast meet held at Girard High School. The wins qualify the students to participate in the state championship meet.
Nine IHS forensics members competed and placed in seven of 12 events entered.
Hayden Wolf was fourth in extemporaneous speaking, Christopher Hines sixth in original oration and Audrea Stahl and Jordan Strickler placed fifth in duet acting.
In improvised duet acting Chris Harrington and Snesrud brought home a fourth place win and Audrea Stahl and Strickler placed fifth.
The team has the maximum of 16 entries to compete in the state championships on May 1 at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka. The one-act plays will be performed at the State Festival on April 30 at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Members will compete at one or both of the state competitions.
The Forensics team will perform for the public at an open house at 7 p.m. April 28 in the Iola High School lecture hall.
