SAFE BASE is recruiting children for its upcoming three-day program, “Get Bug-Eyed this Summer!”
The kindergarten to eighth-grade program will be June 18-20, and emphasize science and learning about the diversity of life in something as simple as a garden. Children will get hands-on opportunities with outdoor sessions in the Wayne Garrett Children’s Garden.
In addition to the garden sessions, children will spend time reading and engage in different activities designed to educate while entertaining. Examples include using sense of smell to find someone in a simulation of what bats do in their natural habitat as well as observe six- and eight-legged variety of garden inhabitants up close. For children who just finished third through eighth grades a campout at Lincoln Elementary will cap the three days. Evening activities will include roasting marshmallows, learning about Native American folklore and stargazing.
The program is free for attendees. Spots still are available and are first-come, first-serve. Parents may call 365-4780 for more information or visit SAFE BASE on Facebook.
