LAHARPE — A workshop geared for anybody interested in how to become involved in local government is planned for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at LaHarpe City Hall.

The event, cosponsored by the League of Kansas Municipalities and Kansas Health Foundation, covers a wide array of topics, from the definition of a city, its basic functions and how it’s governed — before delving into more advanced topics, such as open meetings laws, avoiding conflicts of interest and governmental ethics.

This is the second of three such sessions in LaHarpe. The first was in December.

If the reception remains positive, LKM organizers said they may develop the workshop as a pilot program to offer elsewhere across the state.

Tuesday’s workshop had been scheduled for last week, but was pushed back due to wintry weather.
