Longtime Humboldt resident Mike Bruner filed papers today allowing him to seek a seat on the Allen County Commission.
Bruner, a Democrat, will face current county commissioner Jerry Daniels in the Nov. 6 election. Daniels is completing his first term as the District 1 commissioner.
Bruner, 66, taught high school history in Chanute for 40 years before retiring last year. His wife, Glenda, also taught in the Chanute school system. The Bruners have three grown children two of whom are educators as well and three grandchildren.
Bruner is the current Allen County Democratic Chairman and the precinct committeeman for Humboldt, Ward 1.
The candidate filing deadline is noon June 1.
