Mike Bruner

Longtime Humboldt resident Mike Bruner filed papers today allowing him to seek a seat on the Allen County Commission.

Bruner, a Democrat, will face current county commissioner Jerry Daniels in the Nov. 6 election. Daniels is completing his first term as the District 1 commissioner.

Bruner, 66, taught high school history in Chanute for 40 years before retiring last year. His wife, Glenda, also taught in the Chanute school system. The Bruners have three grown children — two of whom are educators as well — and three grandchildren.

Bruner is the current Allen County Democratic Chairman and the precinct committeeman for Humboldt, Ward 1.

The candidate filing deadline is noon June 1.
