The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced a temporary halt to its June food commodity shipments due to a lack of federal funds, resulting in the cancellation of distribution at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola.

DCF typically partners with local organizations to provide staple foods to thousands of Kansans through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), using federal allocations to purchase items from the USDA’s approved foods list. These items are then delivered to eligible distribution sites across the state.

“Unfortunately, when there are delays at the federal level, they directly impact our ability to fulfill deliveries at the local level,” the agency stated.

The delay stems from the federal government’s failure to provide the necessary administrative funds to cover June shipping expenses. Without that financial support, DCF cannot complete scheduled deliveries.

Marie Barclay with Wesley United Methodist Church assured the community that they will be informed once a new distribution date is determined. DCF said shipments will resume once federal funding is received.
