Allen County received a clean audit for its 2024 financial records Tuesday.
Accountant Rodney Burns of Chanute told county commissioners he found a minor violation with one account, but otherwise had little issue with the budget.
A violation was noted because an account held by the county at Landmark National Bank briefly lacked enough securities to cover the dollars held in the account, Burns said.
The issue was resolved within about two weeks, when the county’s trader realized funds for a health insurance account had not been accurately reported to the bank.
Otherwise, Burns found no cash violations.
“Everything looks good,” Burns said.
Commissioners approved an $18,440 contract for Burns to conduct the county’s 2025 budget, and to help the Commission draft its 2027 budget next summer.
PUBLIC Works Director Mitch Garner gave a brief rundown on construction of a new hangar at Allen County Regional Airport.
Crews have poured the apron near the hanger, and all of the lighting is done inside and outside the structure, aside from one exterior light that couldn’t be installed because of wet grounds.
Garner said drainage will improve once aprons slated for removal are completed.
In other news, Garner said preparations are continuing on the new cell at the Allen County Landfill. Crews are putting a layer of debris atop the liner, which is necessary before it can withstand the weight of large trucks.
Once it’s ready, workers will likely have to dig away at some of the existing cell, which has grown to the size of a small mountain, Garner said.
Barricades used to prevent debris from blowing from the landfill into adjoining parcels of land, best described as soccer goals, have been effective, Garner said.
