Emergency crews successfully extricated a man who had become partially buried inside a grain bin filled with corn Thursday evening.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported the man, whose name has not been released, did not fall in, but was already inside the galvanized steel bin when the corn began to collapse around him.
Emergency units were summoned to the area in the 3000 block of Utah Road at about 7:45 p.m.
Along with the Sheriff’s Department, rescue units from LaHarpe, Iola, Colony and Anderson County responded.
At one point, the man was almost neck-deep in the corn, according to the ACSD press release.
The man was given water and was talking with rescuers as the efforts unfolded. At least one rescuer was inside the bin with him at all times, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
It took about four hours for crews to pull him through an opening in the roof, utilizing a ladder truck.
He was safely lowered to the ground, and then taken via ambulance to Allen County Regional Hospital
An air ambulance was called in and waiting in a nearby field, but was not needed.
