The Iola Police Department is inviting youngsters ages 2-17 to cast their lines once again Saturday for the department’s annual Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs fishing derby.
All attendees will receive a free fishing pole for their participation.
The event runs Saturday morning at Craig and Georgia Abbott’s pond in the 2000 block of North Cottonwood Street.
Parking is available in the Grace Lutheran Church parking lot at 117 E. Miller Rd.
Children will fish in three different age groups, 2-8, 9-12 and 13-17.
Gates open at 8 a.m, with organizers going through the rules at 8:45. The first lines are cast immediately thereafter.
Fishing runs until 11 a.m., with awards to follow. Hot dogs and chips will be served afterward.
Pre-registration can be done at the Police Department.
