Summer meals program launches

With school out for the summer, USD 257’s summer meals program already is up and going.

The meal service began Monday at Iola Middle School, where breakfast and lunch will be served Monday through Thursday through July 25. Breakfast runs from 8 to 9:30 a.m.; lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As in years past, all children ages 1-18 eat fee of charge. Adults also can eat breakfast for $2.50 and lunch for $4.

There are several other outlets for youngsters to satisfy their appetities.

Meals are being offered from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 to noon Monday through Thursday at Jefferson Elementary School through June 7.

Meals at McKinley Elementary School will begin Tuesday, with breakfast served from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

MARV, the districts “meals and reading vehicle” — a refitted school bus — will deliver meals June 4 through July 25 at several sites in Iola, Gas and LaHarpe.

The MARV breakfast and lunch schedules:

— Park area at Chambers and Mc-Guire drives, 8:30-8:50 a.m. and 1:10-1:25 p.m.

— Dodge Drive, 9-9:20 a.m. and 1:30-1:50 p.m.

— Kansas Drive and Eisenhower, 9:45-10:05 a.m. and 2-2:20 p.m.

— South Gas trailer park (lunch only), 11-11:20 a.m.

— Gas Community Center (lunch only) 11:30-11:50 a.m.

— LaHarpe City Hall (lunch only), noon-12:20 p.m.

— Riverside Park swimming pool (super snack only), 3-3:30 p.m.
