Patients traveling out of the area to get treatment for their orthopedic ailments might be relieved to know there is a new guy in town, Dr. Terry Schwab.
Schwab is an orthopedic surgeon, treating ailments of the bones, joints, muscles and ligaments including sports- and work-related injuries in patients of all ages. Originally from Hooper, Neb., Schwab said he is excited about providing orthopedic services in Allen County.
“I like working in small towns and small hospitals,” he said. “I grew up in the Midwest and it’s just a different type of patient. Much more friendly, much easier to take care of.”
Schwab was affiliated with Mercy Hospital Fort Scott from 2009 until March, and signed on with Allen County Regional Hospital April 3. He earned his chemistry/biology undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska, Kearney, and attended medical school at the University of Nebraska. He completed his residency in Orlando, Fla.
The father of four will continue to live in Fort Scott with his wife of 29 years, Kim, a former Radio City Music Hall Rockette. Their daughter Abbey, 17, is home schooled and plans to attend Pittsburg State University and earn a degree in broadcasting. Their eldest son, Zach, 25, works for the Kansas State Gaming and Racing Commission. Ethan, 23, is a tax auditor for the State of Arkansas and Savannah, 21, will graduate Saturday from Calvary Bible College.
