As the 20th Century drew to a close, former Register owners Emerson Jr. and Mickey Lynn put the finishing touches on a two-volume, 1,000-page book dedicated to the early days of Iola and Allen County’s history.

“The Annals of Iola and Allen County” volumes I and II covered daily goings-on from the Register’s infancy in 1867 through World War II.

The books were popular among local historians, schools and others eager to read about days of yesteryear.

After it was published, it became apparent readers were eager to follow along more recent times. Thus, work began on a similar publication, beginning at the conclusion of  World War II and running up to 2000.

Fate intervened, threatening the project. Mickey died in 2009; Emerson in 2013.

Susan Lynn, the Register’s publisher, picked up the baton, and has been working to complete the elder Lynns’ work.

Stories have been compiled and edited, covering the latter half of the 1900s, but a crucial element is needed before the latest volume can be published.

That’s where the community comes in.

The Register is seeking use of any personal photos folks may have tucked away in albums, computer files or elsewhere, for use in the latest publication.

We’ll return them promptly after they have been scanned and we’ll give donors full credit for use.

Please call us at 365-2111 or email news@iolaregister.com if you have photographs pertinent to 1945-2000.

We hope to have the book ready for publication by the end of 2017, which coincides with The Register’s 150th birthday.
