Sorority plans to help local groups

The Kappa Alpha chapter of Phi Tau Omega Sorority discussed fundraising, new committees and other topics when 13 members met Tuesday at Community National Bank.

Mary Ellen Stanley and Carla Hunt were hostesses.

Committees were set up by new chapter president, Roberta Ellis.

Janet Wilson, reporting on the Kappa Alpha Cancer Fund, said two gas cards had been given to cancer patients for travel expenses.

Kappa Alpha’ will continue to host fundraisers to replenish the fund.

Kappa Alpha’s second annual enchilada sale will run through mid-August.

All proceeds go to help support monthly commitments to various organizations in the community. Kappa Alpha has donated to the Pregnancy Resource Center, Backpack for Kids, Hope Unlimited and ACARF, as well as providing gas cards to cancer patients.

The sorority’s monthly social is Thursday, where members will help make the enchiladas. Patty Latta and Jolene Boeken will be the hostesses. The next business meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Community National Bank conference room. Janet Wilson and Gwen Tefft will be the hostesses.
