Swimmers ready for splash

If the weather forecast holds true, dozens of young swimmers will be greeted with warm and sunny conditions Monday for the grand opening of the Iola Municipal Pool
Monday’s Summer Splash 2011 will once again feature a number of contests, prizes and other giveaways courtesy of Iola merchants. KIKS Radio also will be on hand for a live broadcast.
The pool’s facilities, including its large sides, tumble buckets and kiddy slide are primed and ready for the youngsters as well.
Iolans Lyle Kern and Alex Piazza will share managing duties over 39 pool employees.
The pool is open to everyone daily from 1 to 8 p.m., with adult swim sessions from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Swim parties can be reserved on any Friday or Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m. by calling 365-4933.
June 15 and July 20 will be designated as free days for swimmers of all ages.
Children ages 6-17 gain entry for $1. Adults 18-64 pay $2. Those 5 and under or 65 and older are admitted free.
Swim lesson registration runs June 13-July 6.
Daily ticket books will are on sale at the Iola Recreation Department office, although no ticket books will be sold on opening day.
The pool will close early to the public on June 15 and 22 and July 13 for swim team competitions.
