Allen County residents are invited to a forum at 6 oclock tonight to hear comments about a request to use county funds to help set up the office of Visit Allen County.
The request comes from Thrive Allen County, which would use the bulk of the funds to hire a director who would use primarily online resources to promote the countys recreation, dining and shopping opportunities.
If approved, the cost would be shared between the county, which would front $50,000, and Thrive, which would chip in $25,000.
The forum will be in the Allen County Courthouse basement assembly room.
Today a lot more travel is pinpointed and social media outlets are much more efficient than the brochures of 20 years ago, Thrive Executive Director David Toland told county commissioners earlier this summer.
The first year of the project will provide a baseline to decide how to move ahead.
Toland said the goal is to set up a major event, perhaps one involving Iolas trails system, in early spring, with another to follow in the fall.
