E.E. “Gene” Sloan of Humboldt, whose death on Monday, visitation, funeral services and memorials were reported in Tuesday’s Register, was born July 16, 1920, in Vincentville in Allen County, to James Austin and Nora Ellen (Rhodes) Sloan.
On Feb. 16, 1941, Gene married Grace I. Carroll in Iola. They made their home on a dairy farm southeast of Iola until moving to a farm northeast of LaHarpe. They eventually moved to a farm southwest of Iola where they lived until moving to Humboldt four years ago. Along with farming and raising livestock he worked a number of years as a technician for the American Breeder’s Association and later had a small engine repair shop.
Gene enjoyed all animals but was especially fond of raising miniature donkeys.
He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church southwest of Iola.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Jay and his wife, Linda, Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Evelyn Williams and her husband, Howard, Wichita, and Mary Jo Brewington, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Tracy Rawlings; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate at the funeral services at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel.
