Brent Matthew Jackson, 29, of rural Elsmore died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012.

Brent was born May 17, 1982, in Lawrence, the son of Brian Conrad and Janet Marie (Houk) Jackson. He began elementary school in North Manchester, Ind., before the family returned to the farm south of Elsmore. He graduated from Marmaton Valley High School in 2000 where he lettered in football and excelled in workshop. He attended Allen County Community College and transferred to Pittsburg State University where he studied graphic arts.

Brent worked with his father as a farmer and stockman. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for his kindheartedness to people and animals.

He was active in Lively Ones 4-H Club while growing up and was a member of Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg.

He is survived by his parents, Brian and Janet Jackson, Elsmore; a brother, Shane Jackson, Wichita; his grandparents, Richard and Ann Houk, Moran, and Lorella Jackson, Elsmore; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maxine Houk, grandfather, Conrad Jackson, an aunt, Loretta Boman, and cousins, Kent Jackson and Ryan Jackman.

There will not be a formal visitation, however, he will lie in-state at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for friends and family to sign the guest book.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. Burial will be in Elsmore Cemetery.
