Cleo Webber

Cleo Lorraine Holmes Webber, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2015, after an extended illness.
She was born on July 23, 1926, in Independence, to Paul Leroy Holmes and Bertha Spaulding Dillon Holmes.
She graduated from Independence High School in 1944.  Cleo married Lloyd Gene Webber on Sept. 13, 1947, in Independence, and they moved to Chanute in 1951.  They were married 63 years when Gene preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2011.
While a member of Grant Ave. Baptist Church, Cleo taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was active with the American Baptist Women (ABW). She was most recently a member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School class, ABW and was a greeter.
Cleo was a homemaker and enjoyed managing the home.  For several years she worked at Self Service Grocery Store during the Christmas season in the Candy House, periodically sold BBQ beef sandwiches and was the Gingham Flour Girl.  For many years, Cleo volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive by making phone calls to set up donor appointments.  She also volunteered at the hospital working in the Snack Shop and the gift shop from 1975 to 2014.  Cleo attended the initial meeting for Operation Soupline and served as a pie cutter for many years.  She enjoyed baking cakes for Just Another Tuesday.
Survivors include her four daughters: Barbara Ann (Bruce) Seybold, Janet Kay (Al) Hampton, and twins Karen Jean Brooks (David)
 Holtrop, and Colleen Ruth (Loren) Dennis; 11 grandchildren, Clay Gene (Lacey) Hampton, Sarah Lorraine Pollan (Steve) Cunningham, Amy Lorraine Hampton Maddy, Mathew Wayne (Brandi) Dennis, Dr. Stoney Lee (Ashley) Brooks, Jonathan Lloyd Dennis, Brandon Luke Dennis, Mark Frederick (Robin) Dennis, Martin Christopher Dennis, Kate Lorrena Holtrop (Thad) Hawkins, and Jessica Lorraine Dennis;  11 great-grandchildren, Noah Wayne and Nathan Wayne Cunningham, Tess Elizabeth, Hailey Jo, and Jalyn Kate Hampton, Erin Elizabeth and Benjamin James Maddy, Emma Jean Holtrop, Matilyn Charlene, Jocelyn Cadence and Wyatt Dale Dennis; as well as sisters Doris Bowen and Donna (Dan) Borntrager, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, sisters Georgia Helm, Betty  Killingsworth, infant sister Margaret Jean Holmes, and brothers-in-law Sid Bowen, Clifford Helm, and Jim Killingsworth.
A private family burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Pollan and Rev. Kathy Carlson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cherry Street Youth Center or to the American Baptist Women Projects of First Baptist Church.  Countryside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
