Darrel Catron, age 71, of Iola, passed away on Thursday, Jan.  9, 2020.

Darrel was born in Iola, to Clarence Ray Catron and Lucille Catron. Darrel married Deborah Nilges Catron on June 8, 1985 in Iola.

Darrel graduated from Iola High School in 1966, ACCC in 1968, and Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s of science in 1984. He went back to Pitt State where he obtained his master’s degree in special education/behavioral disorders. Darrel was employed by Marmaton Valley from 1984 to 1986. Darrel worked for ANW Co-op from 1985 until 2009, when he retired.

Darrel was a member of the Allen County Country Club, Iola Elks and St. John’s Knights of Columbus. He served on the USD 257 Board of Education for numerous years, and was recently serving on the Gas City Council, after being the mayor for over 20 years.

You could find Darrel at the golf course; either golfing or playing cards, or sneaking a margarita. He enjoyed being outside whether he was fishing, hunting, or enjoying his grandchildren. In his earlier years he loved to play softball. He enjoyed watching KU basketball, the Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Terry Catron.

Darrel is survived by his wife, his daughters and grandchildren; daughter Stephanie Craig and husband, James; their children, Andrew, Zachary, Emily, Alex, and Jacob; daughter Kim Boeken and husband, Michael; their children, Danny, Lukey, and Evan; daughter Jessica Bishop and husband, Casey; their children, Tillie and Reese; sister, Rosalie Straiton; brothers, George and wife, Shirley Catron, Donald and wife, Diane Catron, and Paul Richard and wife, Lynn Catron, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Funeral services for Darrel are at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church. Rosary will take place at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Memorials in honor of Darrel are suggested to Fees Park of Gas, Kansas and can be left with the funeral home. Condolences for the family can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
