Doris O. Hopkins, 97, died on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. 
Mrs. Hopkins was a school teacher at Benton Elementary School and retired in 1985 after 24 years.  She was born July 2, 1920, in rural Benton, the daughter of Frank and Verna (McMaster) Bodecker. Doris grew up in Butler County and graduated from Whitewater High School and obtained her master’s from Emporia University. Doris married Vernon Hopkins in May of 1941 at Palmyra Baptist Church.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents, a brother Blaine and sister Valla.  She is survived by sons Frank J. (Marty) of Pratt, Fred J. (Shelley) of Benton and Dean (Mary) of Benton; a daughter Janet (David) Sager of Moran; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Orpha Parrish; and sister-in-law, Sarajane Bodecker.
Funeral services for Doris will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Palmyra Baptist Church, rural Benton, with burial following at Benton Cemetery. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
