Emma Jane DeMoss, 84, Walnut, passed away at 1:47 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in the Girard Medical Center.
Jane was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Dunlap, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Lewis) Kendall. She graduated from high school in Gas.
Jane married Ben DeMoss on Nov. 2, 1979, in Alma. He survives of the home.
Jane served clerical responsibilities at the USDA Inspection office in Topeka, and she was the “Hostess with the Mostest” at the Topeka Holiday Inn. After moving to Berryton, she established a country home suitable for the perfect Tea Party with her regular gal pals.
Jane moved to Walnut and served as a board member for the Walnut Library, the Walnut Community Center and the annual Easter egg hunt. She was the director of the Senior Citizens Activity Program and Meals on Wheels, both in Walnut.
After moving to the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Jane made jewelry and crafts for her fellow residents. Jane loved the Prairie Mission staff and she had a constant stash of candy to hand out and she provided entertainment for all.
Jane loved to trail ride and attend covered wagon events, the country and small town living, her family and Jesus.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, are daughters Penny Payne, Mason City, Iowa, Piper McPherson, Topeka, Jan Madill, Overbrook, and Lori Virt, Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her brothers, Dale Kendall of Washington state and Don Kendall of Topeka; and her sisters-in-law, Alberta Kendall of Topeka and Darlene Kendall of Washington state.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul. The community of Walnut will have refreshments to follow at the Walnut Community Center.
