Brenda Gail Riley, 67, of Gas died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Columbia, Mo., to John Francis and Elizabeth (Betty) Forbis Kerr. She grew up on a farm south of Westphalia and attended Colony High School and later Emporia State University.
She married Mickey McCord, and they later divorced.
On May 3, 1970, she married Larry Riley. They made their home in Welda and Iola before moving to Gas 12 years ago.
She worked as a waitress at her mother’s steakhouse, The Hilltop, in Welda, and as a beautician in her own shop in Welda and later in Iola. She then worked a number of years for F&S Supply Company before retiring.
She is survived by her husband of the home; four children, Karen Riley and her husband, Fred Conley, Independence, Mo., Mike Riley and his wife, Ann, Topeka, Johnnie Riley and his wife, Tiffany, Iola, and Desirae Tyler and her husband, Terry, Pittsburg; 10 grandchildren, Dee, Brandon, Cierra, Nykki, Cody, Colbi, Cooper, Cali, Isaac and Tate; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Berkley Kerr, Silver Lake.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Zara Riley, in 1998.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Cremation will follow the visitation with inurnment at a later date in the Gas Cemetery.
