Lawrence Gene Law, 89, passed away at his home in Gas on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Gene was born Dec. 18, 1936 in Osawatomie, the son of Lawrence Edward and Della Ann (McCutcheon) Law.
Between 1954 and 1970, Gene served honorably in the United States Naval Reserve, then in the United States Army, and lastly in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Parachute Rigger and an Inventory Management Specialist.
On March 15, 1977, Gene dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His many years of Christian service included 13 years in the full-time ministry.
Through the years, his service to God always came first, but he also enjoyed spending time with his extended family, including his large spiritual family. His other interests included Harley-Davidson “Knucklehead” motorcycles, listening to Cajun music, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gene was married to Carol L. (Wicker) Harris. This marriage was blessed with two children; Jeffrey and Jovita. Carol passed away on Dec. 23, 2021.
Later, Gene was married to Carol S. Hinderliter Law. This marriage was also blessed with two children; Diana and Sandra. Carol currently resides in Georgia.
On Sept. 18, 2004, Gene married Denise Gorda (DeVoe) Williams in Garnett. Until his death, Gene and Denise spent nearly 22 years at each other’s side — laughing, loving, working, worshiping, and preaching together. Denise’s immediate family includes her three children, Amy Miner of Frederick, Md., Terry McCullough of Gas, and David Williams of Wichita.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rosetta Urley; his brothers, Gerald Law and Bob Law (all of Osawatomie); his son, Jeffrey Gene Law of Blytheville, Ark.; and his granddaughter, Whitney Rose Law of Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Gorda Law; his sister, Jody Howell (and husband Tom) of Olathe; his brother, Herb Law of Paola; and his granddaughter, Jessica Law of Arkansas (daughter of his late son, Jeffrey Gene Law).
Additional survivors include his three daughters and their families: Jovita Law Luttrull of Arkansas; her three children, Jeremy Bevill, Jaci Poole, and Alexis Campbell, and her nine grandchildren, Diana Torres (and husband Jay) of Georgia and their two children, Breanna Huggins and Parker (and wife Abby) Torres, and their three grandchildren, Sandra Carpenter (and husband Trevor) of Florida; and their three children, Bailey, Leann, and McKayla (and husband Nate) Pritchard.
A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4040 S. Johnson Rd., Chanute.
