Georgia Ann (George) Guatney, 80, Grove, Okla., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, in Kansas City, Mo.
Georgia Ann was born in the small town of Neosho Falls, on Jan. 26, 1935. She attended local schools, graduated from high school and married the love of her life, Harold Guatney. Together they moved to Iola where they raised their three children. Georgia was elected to the office of county treasurer and served for 10 years. She and her husband Harold then worked together in their auto dealership until they sold the business in 1986 and moved to the Grand Lake area. Harold and Georgia continued to work together, but in another area.
She got her real estate license and they bought properties, cleaned them up, fixed what needed to be fixed and sold them. In 1999, after 47 years of marriage she became a widow when Harold passed away. Georgia has been a part of real estate in Grove for 30 years. She has had the opportunity of meeting many people and finding just the right home for them. She retired from Crye-Leike Realtors in Grove on Dec. 31, 2014. She was a volunteer at the Jana Jae Grand Lake Festivals, the Grand Lake Association and the Chamber of Commerce who named her volunteer of the year in 2004. One thing that many people didn’t know about Georgia is that she was able to fly in the Goodyear Blimp over the Shangri La area of Grand Lake. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and was honored by the Red Cross for continued years of donating over 19 gallons of blood. Georgia continued to live in the house she and Harold built on the banks of Grand Lake and kept up the yard, house, realty work and her travels with the Grand Travelers of Grand Savings Bank. She also enjoyed her travels with her brother Lyle to Alaska and through the Panama Canal.
Georgia is survived by two sons, Lloyd and wife Shelley Guatney, Bartlesville, Okla., and Kenny and wife Nancy Guatney, Grove, Okla.; one daughter, Deby and husband Ed Scheibmeir, Linn Valley; one brother, Lyle George, Parsons; six grandchildren, Lori Barnes, Tulsa, Paul Guatney, Bartlesville, Adam Guatney, Gravette, Ark., Nicholas Guatney, Diamond, Mo., Amy Vance, Weatherby Lake, Mo., and Coley Mattison, Kansas City, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren and many loving nieces nephews, relatives and friends.
