Hazel Marie Fundis, 95, of Iola died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Iola Nursing Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Le Roy, to Omer and Laura May (Sims) Gwinn. She graduated from Le Roy High School and was attending nursing school in Manhattan when an emergency appendectomy sent her home.
On March 28, 1935, she married Wesley G. Fundis. They lived and farmed near Aliceville for 52 years. In January of 1987, they moved to Iola. He died Dec. 23, 2002.
She enjoyed quilting. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola and Sunflower Quilting Guild.
She is survived by a son, Edward and his wife, Gloria, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Roxanne Rochat and her husband, Kim, Camano Island, Wash., and Merridith Kimberlin and her husband, Steve, Chanute; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Gooden, Berryton; eight grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
A son, Dan, granddaughter, Donna Eshelman, brother, Everett Gwinn, and a sister, Helen Rich, died earlier.
Cremation has taken place.
Joint memorial services for Wesley and Hazel Fundis will be announced later.
Private family inurnment will be in Quisling Cemetery southwest of Aliceville.
