Jake Stewart was born Nov. 9, 1955, in Fort Scott to Melvin and Florine Stewart. He passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at his home near Okemah at the age of 59.
Jake worked more than 40 years in the oilfield service. He enjoyed his work and being outdoors. Jake met a lot of people along the way and was never shy about striking up a conversation with them. Jake was an avid hunter and fisherman. Everyone knew when they went along with him the trip wouldn’t just last a couple of hours. They were lucky to be back when the sun came back up. No one would try to clean the fish because they all knew Jake would do it and that he enjoyed that kind of thing. He was also known by all of the trips he made to the store. He would be gone for hours buying who knows what. But it was those kinds of things that made him who he was. He wasn’t perfect, but he would give his shirt to those in need. He was always helping someone out and loved doing things for his grandkids. They brought joy to his life and he enjoyed teaching them things even if he didn’t know it he would figure it out. He was someone they could always call on. Jake also had a passion for guns. He collected them and would go to gun shows. Those are the things he enjoyed most. Jake fought his illness the best he could and stayed strong for his family. He never wanted to seem weak but what he didn’t know was his family saw him as one of the strongest people they knew. He is at peace now and will forever live in their hearts.
The family would like to thank Debbie Cassady, Melody Gallman, Jim Tarwater, and the nurses at Mays Plus, Nurses to Go, Angelica Hospice, Church Family and many other family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time.
