Former Iola resident Leo T. Folk died in Las Vegas, Nev., after an extended stay in the hospital and a short time under hospice care on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012. He was 94.

He was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Checotah, Okla. He started pipelining in 1942. He was in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. During that time he was in Germany. After his homecoming he went back to pipelining until he retired in 1980. His last two yeas of pipelining was on the Alaska pipeline.

He married Roberta McCorkle in Iola in 1940. After his retirement in 1980 they moved from Las Vegas to Iola. They then returned to Las Vegas in 2010 to be closer to their sons.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Jerry, Henderson, Nev., and Donald and his wife, Kathy, North Las Vegas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He will be put to rest at Southern Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder, Nev.

His family ask donations be made to a local Veterans Administration or to Wounded Warriors Foundation.
