Lyndell Gordon Mosley, formerly of Humboldt, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at home in Midway, Ark., surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 16, 1931, in Logan County, Ellsworth Township, Ark., to James Woodard, Jr., and Leona Mae Mosley. He attended school 11 years in Paris, Ark., and graduated high school in Beebe, Ark. In May 1952, he married Ruth Ann Scrudder and she was by his side the next 64 years. He was a faithful Christian, devoted husband, loving dad and doting granddad.
Lyndell served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from February 1951 until November 1953. He enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and retired with an honorable discharge in November 1971.
He graduated with honors from Tulsa University with a bachelor of science in business administration in 1956. He received his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1960. In l978, he received his master of business administration degree from Pittsburg State University.
He began his career as bookkeeper for Infantex Shoe Factory in Beebe, Ark. After college, he worked for Arthur Anderson, Kansas City, Mo., for two years. He worked for Monarch Cement Company, Humboldt, for 45 years and was chief financial officer when he retired in May 2003.
Lyndell dedicated time to many committees and boards over the years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, trustee and moderator as well as being on the church board at First Baptist Church in Humboldt. He was president of the Southeast Kansas Baptist Men’s Council and served several terms on the American Baptist Central Region Board. He served as chairman of the Biblesta Parade, 1960-62. He was a member of the Rotary club and served as president.
In 1966, he was elected to the board of trustees for Allen County Community College and served for 28 years. As chairman of the 1966 board, they had the huge challenge of selecting the site and building plans for the new college as well as the hiring of a new president. He was a member of the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce and American Mining Congress serving on their tax committees.
The couple enjoyed traveling with their family. They moved back to Arkansas in September 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, of the home, three sons, Gary and his wife, Sveta, Humboldt, Phillip and his wife, Brenda, Paola, and Charles and his wife, Tina, Midway, Ark.; one daughter, Laura Samford and her husband, Richard, Pittsburg; a brother, Ray Mosley, Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren include Shea (Lindsey) Mosley, Olathe, Chad Mosley, Las Vegas, Nev., Mitch Mosley, Columbus, Ohio, Samantha (Montana) Hoing, Coal Hill, Ark., Yuliya Mosley (Matt Barley), Manhattan, Kan., Ethan, Parker and Marshall Samford, Pittsburg, and two great-granddaughters, Maliya and Maelani Barley, Manhattan.
Lyndell’s desire was to further education and made the generous gift of his earthly remains for medical education and research. Memorial service and inurnment will be at a future date in Ellsworth Cemetery near Midway, Ark. Online condolences may be left at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
