Mary Marie Dietrich Bennett, Colony, passed away on Aug. 18, 2025, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Iola.

Mary was born on June 19, 1961, to Leslie and Rita Dietrich of rural Colony, who survive her.

She is also survived by her three brothers: John Dietrich and wife Daphne of Garnett, Timothy Dietrich and wife Shaney of Colony and Wesley Dietrich of Colony. Mary also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren — Mercedes, Isabella, Alivya, Ryan, and Phoenix — as well as numerous aunts, uncles, extended family members, and dear friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert L. (Bob) Bennett, who passed on Aug. 2, 2019, at the age of 64. Bob and Mary were united in marriage on March 28, 1981, in Iola. Their union was blessed with four children, all of whom tragically preceded Mary in death:

• Christina Bennett, born Sept. 25, 1981 — passed June 26, 2014

• Robert Leroy Bennett Jr., born Oct. 9, 1983 — passed March 23, 2023

• Seth Andrew Bennett, born Oct. 9, 1986 — passed Oct. 15, 2012

• Morgan Bennett, born April 14, 1993 — passed May 11, 2014

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a beacon of strength to all who knew her. She was selfless, generous, dependable, and hard-working. Her adventurous spirit shone through in the small joys she loved — playing bingo with her mother Rita, canning and baking, and spending cherished time with family and friends.

She held an unwavering Christian faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and attended the Colony Community Church at the time of her passing. Mary was admired for her honesty, intelligence, and natural leadership — qualities that made her both a role model in her family and made her  a valuable member of the community.

Mary’s legacy is one of enduring love, resilience, and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

Mary’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29,  at the Colony Community Church, 308 Maple St.

Memorials are suggested to Colony First Responders/ Colony Fire Dept. and may be left at Colony City Hall, 339 Cherry St. or mail P.O. Box 65 Colony, KS 66015.
