Terry Burns

Terry Wayne Burns, 58, Iola, died Friday, June 8, 2012.

Terry was born Dec. 10, 1953, in Olathe, the son of Bob and Maude (Stringer) Burns. The family moved to Iola from Parsons in 1969. Terry graduated from Iola High School in 1972. He had worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator for 38 years, including as a communications technician with AT&T.

On May 30, 1981, Terry married Kim M. Murray in Iola, where they made their home. They lived in Belle Plaine for 10 years before returning to Iola in 1996.

He was a member of Iola Elks and enjoyed hunting, fishing, working crosswords and spending time at Grand Lake.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Candi Morris and husband Tony and Nick Burns, all of Iola; a grandson, Austin Morris; his parents, Bob and Maude Burns, Iola; three siblings, Cinda Jones and husband Mike, Moran, Don Burns and wife Jane, Gas, and Ron Burns, Hollywood, Fla.; his in-laws, Don and Lois Murray, Iola; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be from 6  to 8 p.m. Thursday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel.
