We’ll always be writing our story

Our high school achievements were never meant to define us forever. They’re just pieces of our experience, not the full picture of who we are.

When I first sat down to write this speech, I felt a lot of pressure to find the right message.

I could talk about the memories we made, the challenges we’ve overcome, or the people who have been a part of our lives.

But none of it really captured what I wanted to leave behind.

As May came, and school started winding down, I kept asking myself, “who am I now?”

And I think a lot of us have been asking that same question.

For a long time, high school makes it easy to define ourselves.

We became athletes, performers, students, leaders or whatever fills our schedule.

Our days are built around practices, games, rehearsals, deadlines and late nights, finishing everything before 11:59.

At the time, it feels like that’s a normal life. Until suddenly, it isn’t.

Everything starts to slow down. The noise fades. In that quiet, the question becomes harder to avoid.

Who am I without all of this?

What I’ve realized is that the labels were never meant to define us forever. They’re just pieces of our experience, not the full picture of who we are.

What actually stays with us is how we treat people, the choices we make when no one is watching, and how we handle life when things don’t go as planned.

Before we leave, we want to say thank you to our teachers, coaches, staff, friends and every adult who supported us, guided us, and believed in us.

None of us got here alone. Your impact will stay with us long after today.

Most of all, we want to thank our parents. For the early mornings, the late nights, the sacrifices we didn’t always notice, and the love that never stopped, no matter what. You believed in us on the days we didn’t believe in ourselves. We wouldn’t be standing here without you.
