Letter to the editor — July 27, 2011

Dear Editor,

The Chicken Shack in Bronson will serve its last chicken on Sunday, July 31, before the doors will close after many years of good meals and service to the surrounding area.
Darren and Tracy Mann and family and before them, Don Mann and his wife, former owners, as well as many others are sad to see the doors close.
People from nearby and far away have enjoyed good chicken and gravy and oh the biscuits, as well as many good memories at this establishment.
It’s been on the market for the last couple of years with no interest from investors, but with the economy like it is, it takes income to keep a business going. It has provided lots of young people with jobs through high school and college, as well as others.
I have some beautiful memories from there. Two years ago my family surprised my mother with her 92nd birthday party with over 50 in attendance and served by the Manns. She, now 94, still talks about that party.
Three years ago my husband took me there to eat on our first date, over 50 years after he had first asked me out and I turned him down. He wasn’t so lucky this time.
This weekend there will be many good meals, memories and tears shared over the closing of this “little chicken shack.”
I just want to say “thank you” and “God bless you” to the Manns for their time and for so many years of work and good meals!

Phyllis Zornes Jackson,
Mound City, Kan.
