The Etch-a-Sketch brouhaha is a crock.
When a high-level aide of Mitt Romney said the candidate would start his campaign over after being nominated and compared the change to shaking up an Etch-a-Sketch toy to present a clean slate, Santorum, Gingrich, and a passel of pundits went ballistic. “See,” they screamed, “there truly is a new Romney with each new dawn!”
Yeah. And very noisy new Santorums and Gingrichs, as well.
Of course a candidate’s pitch changes when the audience changes.
A candidate who didn’t redo his campaign when he no longer was wooing the far right would court massive defeat.
What this latest tempest-in-a-teapot demonstrates is that no issues of consequence are being put forward by any of them.
