Dear editor,
As a resident of Iola since 1958, I have never seen so much discrimination against city employees.
It seems judgment is made without true facts. When you were elected to office, I don’t think any of us thought this is the way it would turn out.
…. Casting false accusations — where is common courtesy?
I’m sure in both cases, (former City Administrator Judy Brigham and former Human Resources Manager Ken Hunt) they were doing what they were told to do, and if proven to be so, I think a public apology is due, with your pictures on the front page, so we know who not to vote for the next time.
When folks from out of town phone and ask what’s going on in Iola, I’m sure the news about our city helps industries not want to come here.
I’m not a personal friend to either party involved, but my heart certainly goes out to them.
I think if you continue to do all the damage while in office, the next election will be different.
Marianne Westerman,
Iola, Kan.
Dear editor,
I feel the same on this matter (Referring to the above letter.)
My husband came to Iola to help set up Berg Manufacturing in 1974. We found Iola a wonderful place to live in, until now. I question why people are being criticized for the work they do, when others had a say in the decisions they made.
I also feel an apology is needed.
Lillian Orzechowski,

Dear editor,
The article in The Iola Register of march 28, “Axe drops at Iola City Hall once again” states that Mr. Ken Hunt was fired with just cause, but the city once again won’t say way.
The city once again comes up with they won’t divulge the reason due to privacy rights. This was the same as they did on the Judy Brigham firing. Then there was the lady police officer that was terminated. The public wasn’t informed of this either.
These people in a sense were the representatives for us people of Iola and of Allen County. The reasons should be public info the same as thefts, court news, etc. Where is the privacy for these people or do they not have privacy.
There seems to be too much under the table situations going on. There is too much being covered up with this council.
At least Mr. Becker has the guts to stand up for what he believes. You can bet that everything he wants to do will be rejected by the rest of the council.
When Craig Abbott was commissioner he also had the guts to say what he thinks is right. He was not a yes man. He is a successful business man, and didn’t get where he is today by keeping quiet about what he believes in. Nobody is always right. I’m not saying all council members are out of line. The executive sessions are also too long and too frequent.
