A thank you to Bob Johnson for his very public comments on 9th District representative Bill Otto of Le Roy in the April 17 Iola Register.
I have lived all over the state and outside, too, before coming to Kansas because of marriage to a native. I love Kansas. It’s my home as well as the home of choice for my children and grandchildren.
The mis-perception of those who have never been here is one of a flat, tornado-ridden area devoid of vegetation and a populace of ignorant heathens.
I tire of constantly defending Kansas to relatives, friends, penpals and strangers (while traveling) when they are bombarded with national news about the murder of George Tiller and Fred Phelps’s funeral activities among other sensationalisms.
Unfortunately, Bill Otto’s Internet shenanigans are also viewed nationally and consequently do nothing to prevent further negative opinions of Kansas.
I have been to hear Otto speak and have had one-on-one conversations with him and he’s even more embarrassing in person.
I am an active lifelong Democrat and proud of it. However — in the event that no Democratic candidate steps forward — I promise to support and vote for a Republican who opposes Otto — for the first time in my life. That’s how important it is to “retire” Otto.
