The Allen Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.
The men’s squad finished the 8k in second place as a team with 62 total points.
The University of Saint Mary won the men’s race with just 45 points.
Allen placed its top-five runners, who are the point scorers in the event, within the top 25.
Saint Mary placed all five of its scoring runners within the top 15, which ultimately helped put the Spires atop the standings on Saturday.
Ben Najman, who has been the Red Devils’ top runner so far this season, once again was Allen’s fastest runner on the men’s side.
Najman’s time of 26:09.1 was good enough to place second overall. His teammate Pedro Montoya finished in third place, just 3.8 seconds behind.
The women’s team only had four runners compete at the Cowboy Jamboree, so the Lady Red Devils were unable to qualify for a team score in the 5k race.
However, Allen’s top runners were still able to find success on an individual level.
Kaitlyn Shoemaker finished in seventh place overall with a time of 19:44.6.
Kristina Silvers wasn’t too far behind, placing 25th out of 156 runners with a time of 20:38.1.
The Allen cross country team will compete next at the Fort Hays State Open on Oct. 10.
