Junior College Soccer: Allen County Red Devils
The Allen County mens soccer team opened up its season strongly versus the Tabor junior varsity at home on Wednesday with a 6-2 win.
Both teams got on the board early but the Red Devils scored five straight to seal victory.
Sophomore Wilmer Canales got the scoring started with a goal assisted by freshman Irvin Garcia in the 10th minute.
Tabor quickly tied it back up.
Freshman Roshod Nembhard scored the second goal, assisted by sophomore Austin Cuevas. Freshman Juan Carlos Martinez pushed the Red Devils lead to 3-1 on an assist from Canales before Canales scored again on an assist from sophomore Joe Trejo to go up 4-1.
Freshman Alejandro Cabrera scored from an assist from freshman Dylan Hawley and freshman Gilberto Yanez finished off the scoring for the Red Devils, hitting a penalty kick to push their lead to 6-1.
Tabor scored near the end to cut the Red Devil lead to four but that was all the Allen defense allowed.
The Red Devils out-shot Tabor 20-2 and 12-2 on goal.
Three different Allen keepers split time in goal.
The Lady Devils also got a 3-1 win versus Tabor.
Stats were not available as of press time.
Both teams are in Minnesota for a tournament and will return home Friday to play Metropolitan Community College.
