Jayhawk Conference officials named six Allen Community College Red Devil baseball players to the All-Jayhawk Conference Team after their season wrapped up last weekend.
Sophomore infielders Kaden Wint, Cooper Bates, sophomore catcher Carson McCormac, freshman pitcher Doc Needham and sophomore outfielder Jose Zorilla were each named as honorable mentions.
McCormac’s recognition is just one more honor following a season of recognitions. Earlier this month, ACC officials named McCormac as the ACC Male Athlete of the Year. He batted .387 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs. Along with driving in the most runs and home runs, McCormac has a slugging percentage of .796.
Zorilla was Allen’s second power hitter in the lineup with seven homers. He was third in RBIs with 36 and a .289 batting average.
Bates was one of Allen’s most reliable gloves as a utility player while also tying for second in stolen bases. He was also second in hits with 64 and also fourth among the Red Devils in RBIs with 31.
Wint was another jack of all trades in the infield and just two RBIs behind Bates with 29. He was also one of Allen’s best players in terms of slugging and on base percentage.
Two-year Canadian import Moretto provided Allen with power hitting and was second among Red Devils hitters with 41 RBIs. He was also second in batting average with .360 and was third in hits with 36.
Needham was Allen’s only pitcher selected as the Red Devils winningest pitcher this season with five victories. He had a team-leading 56 strikeouts and the lowest E.R.A. among Allen pitchers at 4.67. Needham is also the only honorable mention eligible to return to Iola next season.
